John Lynch was married to
Sam Marley's
sister, Laura. John was involved with the Archer Gang's murder of
Sam Bunch as it searched for Sam Marley to avenge the death of
Little Mart Archer.
In July 1882, Samuel Marley murdered "Little Mart"
Archer (Thomas Acrher's son) over an argument in regards to monies
earned from stolen logs that Marley, Little Mart, and Sam Bunch had
hijacked as they were being transported down the White River
headed for Illinois. Samuel Marley and Sam Bunch proceeded to
sell the logs and to not give Little Mart his fair share of the money.
Needless to say, Little Mart was very upset and the other's
decided to murder Little Mart versus paying him his share of the money.
Samuel Marley was the trigger man who shot Little Mart on July 8,
1882. This murder would lead to the death of Sam Bunch at the
hands of the Archer Gang. Lynch was charged and arrested for his
part in this crime.
Lynch turned state's evidence against the Archer's in return for
leniency. Lynch received a three year sentence for his
involvement in the murder and was incarcerated in the Indiana State
Prison in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Lynch was released from prison in about 1889. Lynch died in 1894
in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
