Martin has been described as posessing the hard headedness of a criminal in every way. Martin was the leader of the Gang and was the most vicious of the bunch. While in jail awaiting his execution, Samuel Archer described his uncle's (Martin) ruthlessness as being the cause for the family's destruction. Samuel stated that Martin, ".. seemed to enjoy killing people".
